Simply a New Year!

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

I’ve never really set resolutions before, but I’m going to try something new this year.  This is the year that I simplify my life.  Unplug more and get ride of emotional and physical junk.  I have been researching the Minimalist lifestyle and while I’m not ready to live in a 500 sq. ft. tiny home (I have three kids), I do need to clean out the clutter.  As a wife and mother I feel like 90% of my day is spent shuffling crap I don’t need from one spot to another.  That insanity has to stop. Personally, I think the clutter, physical and noise, is negatively affecting my creativity, my happiness and my health.  In the next few days I will be setting up some new years resolutions for simplifying my life.

First on the list is picking a room each month to de-clutter and de-junk.  I basically have about 12 spaces in my home, including bathrooms and kids rooms and I will be tearing through one a month.  I will be envisioning a move. “If I were moving next week…”  Would I really want to pack this whatever it is and take it to the new house?  Have I used it in the last year? Does it fit?  Or am I just shuffling it from place to place, cramming more stuff into already over crowded closets and drawers.  We have lived in this home for over 16 years and it really needs a good clean out!

To get me started I’m reading Simplify:

Simplify - 7 Guiding Principles to Help Anyone Declutter Their Home and Life ebook by Joshua Becker

Join me!  I would love to hear encouraging words of wisdom from any others who have gone on this journey.

TaTa for now!

Been Married A Long Time?

This is a really funny blog about what you can do for your spouse around the house.  What I found really funny is how universal it all is.  Everyone seems to have the same pet peeves when living with another person!

Angel’s Kiss is a “MystParaThrillerMance” Novel

genre wordsFront Cover

Genre?

“What genre is Angel’s Kiss?”  The nice lady asks.

Nothing makes me squirm more that those 5 words. “Umm, fiction?”  I answer.

“No,” She looks at me like I’m an idiot.  “I mean is it a paranormal, a thriller, a murder mystery or a fantasy novel?”

“Yes. All the above.”

Wikipedia says that genreis the term for any category of literature or other forms of art or entertainment, e.g. music, whether written or spoken, audial or visual, based on some set of stylistic criteria. Genres are formed by conventions that change over time as new genres are invented and the use of old ones are discontinued. Often, works fit into multiple genres by way of borrowing and recombining these conventions.”

Sounds simple right?  But I’ve never been very good at all or nothing categories.  I remember growing up in the late 70’s and people either liked Disco or Rock.  It was a big deal back then and I just didn’t understand why I couldn’t like both Donna Summer and AC/DC.  So for this article I have been doing a lot of research on some of my favorite authors and every website I check has them under different categories. It’s very confusing even to those of us in the business so I know it’s confusing to everyone.  One of my fans said it best when she wrote: “Lynne Stevie has managed to encompass murder, mystery and intrigue with a paranormal bent all the way to the end, that will keep you breathless and wanting more.”   So, back to the original question, what genre is Angel’s Kiss?

How does a writer classify their novel?  Out of all the articles on Genre that I have reviewed two stand out in my mind.  The first one is Rachelle Gardner’s blog http://www.rachellegardner.com/2012/04/identify-your-novels-genre/ and the other is Sarah LaPolla’s blog http://bigglasscases.blogspot.com/search?q=genre.  Both ladies are literary agents and both have great advice for authors.  Basically, no matter how hard we fight against it we must learn to classify our art for business purposes.  How can we sell our novels if we can’t find the right audience?  After extensive research I have come to a decision.

Angel’s Kiss is a… (I want to make up my own category, “mystparathrillermance”.  Okay, okay, I know I have to decide.)…Adult Paranormal Thriller.  As the song goes, “That’s my story and I am sticking with it.” Check out the blogs listed above for more information on Genre and if you’ve already read Angel’s Kiss and have a better label for it, please let me know.  If you haven’t read it, grab a copy of this Sexy Paranormal Thriller today at Amazon .

Happy Reading and Writing

Decisions, Decisions, Decisions

Well, after carefully assessing all my options I’ve decided to try Kindle Select.  I am now exclusively selling my novel Angel’s Kiss in the digital or ebook format with Amazon.  This agreement will last for three months and then I will look at all the pros and cons and decide if I am going to stay with them or open my work back up to the other outlets.  For now you can still get the paperback version of Angel’s Kiss on Amazon or  Lulu.com.
